Happy 2026, you guys. In this video I’m doing a cozy Thriftmas debrief (aka my fully secondhand Christmas with my in-laws) because so many of you asked if it actually worked. I’m showing you what it looked like on Christmas Day, how we used a simple wishlist system so everyone had direction while thrifting, and what I ended up getting the most of (you have to guess before I tell you): coffee table books and vinyls. I share some of my favorites—like design and architecture books that I’ll keep forever—and a few thoughtful surprises that were totally “me,” like handmade garden pieces. Then I take you along for my first secondhand shopping trip of the year: an estate sale. January is genuinely one of my favorite times to thrift because everyone’s clearing out and resetting, so it’s a great moment to find decor, furniture, and project pieces. I talk through what I’m hunting for (dining chairs, living room seating, garden/backyard items), what I passed on (too much black leather for my space), and what I brought home—like a modernist ceramic vase, an extendable articulating lamp I negotiated down, a harvest basket, and practical garage organizers. If you’re trying to start the year more sustainably (and more budget-smart), this is your sign to go secondhand first.
