For my birthday, my partner and I headed up to the mountains in Idyllwild to disconnect, get into nature, and (of course) thrift. Anytime I’m out of town, I’m hunting for thrift stores, antique shops, local garage/estate sales—anything that might have those unique vintage pieces that make a home feel curated without spending a fortune. In this vlog, I’m taking you along as we do breakfast at Mama’s Eggs (multiple times because it was that good), stop into a local museum to understand what the area is known for, and then bounce around downtown shops like a bookstore and a record store. From there, we hit an outdoor thrift store setup with little shacks full of insanely cheap furniture (like… $12 chairs), and later a bigger thrift store where you really have to dig shelf-by-shelf to find the gems. I share what I picked up—a $10 tablecloth that might become a DIY fabric moment, plus two drawer systems for $40 that I’m planning to refresh in a future thrift flip. I also tour our cute mid-century-ish cabin (wood paneling, clerestory windows, vintage kitchenette… obsessed), and we finish the trip with bird-watching via a free app, a hot-but-beautiful hike, and a reminder that sometimes the best part of travel is being forced to slow down and stay present.
