About This Video

Just because it’s budget-friendly doesn’t mean it can’t look chic—and that’s exactly the vibe of this DIY Halloween garland. In this video, I’m walking you through one of my favorite renter-friendly Halloween decor projects: making little clay “ornaments” using inexpensive cookie cutters and stringing them into a simple, elevated garland. It’s the kind of decor that feels curated and intentional, but it’s still easy, affordable, and totally doable in a rental. I use Crayola air-dry clay, roll it out like cookie dough, and focus on keeping the thickness even (about 1/4" to 1/2") so the pieces don’t break as easily. After cutting out shapes (black cat, pumpkin, ghost, bat), I add holes with the end of a paintbrush, let them dry outside for about two days, then spray paint everything matte black—front, edges, and back. To assemble, I wrap tape around the end of the jute cord to make threading easier, string each piece, and finish with knots on the ends so nothing slips off. The result is chic, minimal, and perfect for a seasonal refresh without damaging your space.
