About This Video

Just because it’s budget-friendly doesn’t mean it can’t look chic—and in this video I’m showing you one of my favorite easy Halloween DIYs: creepy mummy votives that still feel elevated. I start with plain cheesecloth (you can grab it at any craft store or even the Dollar Tree), then I pull it apart until it’s just one or two sheets thin so it looks more like real, aged fabric. To get that old, spooky tone, I soak it in a simple cold brew coffee + water mix and let it dry outside so it shifts from bright white to a creamier, darker color. Once it’s dry, I cut rough, jagged strips (the messier the better) to mimic mummy bandages. Then I use Dollar Tree glass votives and spray glue to layer the strips all over—including the bottom—so it looks fully wrapped and more high-end. The cheesecloth is delicate, so I keep layering for that 3D texture, and if my hands get too sticky I use the spray glue like hairspray to pat things down (just don’t spray inside the votive). For extra aging, I mist a little more cold brew on top—trust me, it darkens more as it dries.
