About This Video

Just because it’s budget-friendly doesn’t mean it can’t look chic—and in this video I’m showing you easy, elevated Halloween decor you can DIY with what you already have (or can grab super cheaply). I start with public domain art prints that already feel a little spooky on their own, then I use paint Sharpies to draw tiny ghosts right over the people in the artwork. That’s my favorite trick here because the original figures give you the correct perspective and angles, so the ghosts look intentional instead of cartoonish. It adds “real art” to your space while still giving that subtle Halloween vibe. I also share a super renter-friendly frame hack using two Dollar Tree frames (one of mine had broken glass, so it became a perfect candidate). I glue one frame on top of the other with E6000 to create a thicker, more vintage-looking gold frame, and I let it fully dry so it looks like one solid piece. To make printed art look like an old-world painting, I brush on matte Mod Podge with messy, varied strokes—though I’ll be honest, a sponge brush gives a better finish (I tested both). For my second print, I add a bat “swarm” without a stencil or Cricut by tracing a bat image at the window, then sealing it all with Mod Podge so it dries with that painted texture—especially cute in a frame without glass.
