But with a lot of sweat and tears and a few renter-friendly upgrades lol, I think I finally gave it a little "period correction," and now it's come to life! It’s still minimal enough to flow with the modern office it’s attached to, but now it actually feels like it belongs to the original architecture of the home. So if you’re working with a small, characterless bathroom and want some easy, affordable ideas to bring in warmth, personality, and character without a full renovation or huge budget, I think this transformation can give you some inspiration! About This Video

This video is me finally dealing with what I’ve been calling “the weird guest bathroom” — a technically-full bathroom that’s only 18 square feet and somehow manages to feel even smaller. After two years of basically ignoring it, I wanted it to feel more functional, less builder-grade, and way more connected to the (almost) 100-year-old Spanish Revival character of my home… without renovating, because I’m renting. So I reset the space from the ground up: cleaned everything out, fixed wall damage, tested creamy whites, and then committed to a warm cream wall + a bold dark blue ceiling to add depth and height in a tiny room. The big “period correction” moment was adding powder-blue peel-and-stick tile halfway up the walls (with a contact paper barrier so it won’t rip drywall later), plus peel-and-stick trim that I spray painted black to mimic the other bathroom’s detailing. I also tackled the biggest pain points: zero shower storage (hello shelves), slippery too-small bath mat situation (I tested removable vinyl cork-look tiles), privacy without losing light (DIY cafe curtain with IKEA napkins + stitch witchery), and lighting that actually works (an articulating sconce mounted on the ceiling to act like a vanity light). It’s still minimal enough to flow with my office, but now it finally feels like it belongs in this house.
