Pretending to offer territory in surrender, he revealed the blade and lunged—but missed. The king fled around a pillar before guards killed the assassin. Though the attempt failed, it created the lasting Chinese idiom 图穷匕见 (tú qióng bǐ xiàn): the moment when hidden intentions are finally revealed.
