About This Video

In this video I build the Breaking Bad coffee table, but I did it the hard way—because I couldn’t find any plans or decent reference photos. So I watched the series again, grabbed screenshots right off the TV with my phone whenever the table showed up, printed them, and then worked backwards from those pictures to figure out the proportions and details. I built it out of pine (the state wood of New Mexico), and I have to say, I’m absolutely thrilled with how it turned out—this motif really makes the whole piece. Along the way I show how I prep my lumber (including checking moisture content), how I keep a big glue-up flat using dowels, and how I deal with real-world wood problems like chipped knots and cracks without wasting good stock. Starbond products played a big role here: I used their CA glue with micro tips and accelerator to stabilize and fill defects, and I used their sanding supplies to level those repairs. I also pre-finished with Osmo before final assembly, because it’s a finish I’ve trusted for about 20 years and it gives me the look I want on a table like this.
