Everybody talks about going from Turo to private rentals… but almost nobody actually does it. In this video I break down why: people are scared. They think private rentals are more work, they don’t understand insurance, and they have no clue how they’re going to get customers without Turo. I’m telling you straight up—when we made the switch (we were around 100 cars doing about $100k/month), our first month out we did $180k. That’s an 80% revenue increase, and it was honestly like 10x easier because we had control. I walk through the three big “scary” parts. First is insurance: off-rip/off-trip coverage (like ROMLY or GMI style coverage) isn’t enough to rent directly to customers, so you have to vet the renter’s personal policy and/or sell them proper coverage. Second is operations: reimbursements, claims, impounds—Turo is just a middleman, and that middleman slows everything down. With private rentals you can charge deposits, collect smoking/cleaning/tolls immediately, and move faster on problems like impounds. Third is marketing: ads matter, but your website and booking funnel matter more. A bad funnel can burn any ad budget; a good funnel can turn low acquisition cost into massive ROI over long rentals.
