About This Video

In this video I’m talking about a Suhr Classic S Strat-style guitar I just picked up, and whether it’s actually worth all the hype. I recently sold my ’64 Strat (and yeah, I miss it—those pickups were amazing), but I needed a Strat back in the collection to do the real Strat thing. This Suhr isn’t trying to be a vintage clone; it’s a high-performance Strat with a bunch of modern updates that are genuinely useful. I break down what Suhr nailed: the fretwork is some of the best I’ve ever seen, and the stainless steel frets feel perfect and should basically last forever. The trem stays in tune incredibly well, and the guitar just plays easy—especially up high. I also love the slightly wider board/spacing compared to some smaller vintage Fender necks, because the low E and high E don’t fly off the edge like they can on old ’60s-style necks. I talk pickups (I’m a 3-single-coil Strat guy), why HSS can be great for cover/bar band versatility, and one of my favorite practical upgrades: having a tone control that actually works on the bridge pickup so you can tame that gnarly top end.
