I’ve used tube amps my entire career, and if you’ve been around here for a while you know I love old Marshall plexis and the whole “real amp” thing. But I’m telling you straight up: for live gigs, I’m done with tube amps. In this video I share my first impressions of the Kemper Profiler MK2, why I’ve moved my live rig over to it, and what makes it feel so ridiculously close to a great tube amp—especially how responsive it is to the guitar volume knob. The big win for me is workflow. The Kemper MK2 feels like an amp: real knobs, fast adjustments, no laptop, no touchscreen, no digging through menus when inspiration hits or the room changes. I also talk about the low-mid thing you’ll notice compared to a mic’d cab (like a 4x12 with an SM57) and why it actually makes sense—because that “amp in the room” fullness is part of what we love. Plus, running simple stereo XLR outs and getting true stereo effects (chorus/delay/reverb) is a game changer. Bottom line: the MK2 feels, sounds, and reacts in a way that makes it the best modeler on the market right now, in my humble opinion.
