In this video I’m talking about AI and what I think it’s going to do to the music business, especially here in Nashville. I’ve lived here for 10 years and made my living as a working musician, and a huge part of how I “cut my teeth” was playing on songwriter demos—sometimes for 20 or 50 bucks, sometimes on songs that were honestly terrible—but it forced me to create parts, work in a studio-like environment, and get reps actually bringing a song to life. That whole demo ecosystem is a big deal in this town, and I really believe AI is going to cut into that market hard. I’m not saying AI can’t be a useful tool. If it spits out a keyboard idea, a guitar part, a lyric, or a melody you like, you can use it as a reference and then have real musicians play it—people are already doing that with Suno-style demos to try to get the “raw emotion” back. Because that’s my main point: AI music, to me, doesn’t communicate. I can hear when something was made by people who care versus something that’s one-dimensional, and AI still feels obvious and emotionally flat. At the end of the day, nobody really knows where this goes. But I do know I miss the simple days—getting in a room, collaborating, cracking jokes, and having fun. That’s what music is supposed to be.
