In this video I’m at the Nomadik Customs shop in Portland, Oregon, getting a full “soup to nuts” tour of a 2022 170 4x4 build that’s basically an off-grid tiny house on wheels. I walk through the layout they’ve refined over multiple versions—Murphy bed up front, a super clean living area, and a kitchen that literally disappears. The whole vibe is custom: clients pick the finishes, and you can feel that “sanctuary” mindset in every detail, from the shaker doors to the wild hand-cut wood art made from ten different species. What really makes this one special is the systems thinking. They’ve consolidated mechanicals into the bench area: a 24V 10,000Wh power system, Cruisin Comfort A/C, Van Life Tech radiant heated floors, forced air heat, and on-demand hot water—plus a seriously thorough insulation process (they’re talking R14–R16 in the walls). Then we get to the headliner feature: a Van Life Tech recirculating shower setup that lets you take legit long, hot showers without burning through your whole tank. Outside, it’s built to roam—bumper, winch, lights, suspension, storage, and steps that are actually designed with real-world use in mind.
