About This Video

Hey, it’s Sam here. In this video I’m checking out the Ticktype DP104 — a full-size 104-key “exploded” layout board with a CNC aluminum case and a retro-inspired look, plus a full RGB LED matrix display. I’m using the powder white version paired with the Neorai (Ry) linear switches, and this config sits around $199. I go through the unboxing (hard shell case, cable, puller, extra Mac/OS keycaps, spare gaskets/parts, 2.4GHz dongle, and extra switches), then we get into the design details like the red escape frame, ambient lighting, volume controls, and that mirror-finish PVD weight. After that, I walk through the customized VIA setup (with the JSON) so you can remap layers, record macros, and tweak a bunch of settings like NKRO, sleep timer, debounce, connection modes, and of course the backlight/underglow and LED matrix effects. Then I do a teardown: the screwless ball-catch structure and magnetic components make it surprisingly easy to work on, and inside you’ll find multiple sound dampening layers, an 8000mAh battery, and a soft butterfly leaf spring mounted polypropylene plate. I finish with a typing sound test and my final thoughts — it feels premium, it’s genuinely fun to customize, and it delivers a really thocky sound signature.
