Hey, it’s Sam here. In this video I’m checking out the Awekeys Air — a full metal, low-profile keycap set that’s currently on Kickstarter (starting at $119). I’ve got the Titanium Black set in the MX-style stem version, and I walk through the unboxing, what you get in the box, and the overall design. The keycaps come individually packed in foam to avoid shipping damage, and you also get a metal keycap puller that doubles as a stem adjuster if your caps fit too tight on certain switches. I also go over the finishes and color options. The surface is scratch resistant with a nano-coated layer, and you can choose between satin or a more textured brush finish. Then the fun part: I do typing sound comparisons so you can actually hear what metal low-profile keycaps do to your board. The biggest takeaway is the sound and feel — the Awekeys Air makes a low-profile keyboard feel more premium and helps it sound deeper and “thockier.” Just keep the weight in mind: the metal spacebar is around 22g (almost 4x a normal one), which can make your keyboard heavier and may affect performance on hall effect boards.
