In this project I take an old HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF office PC and try something a lot of people ask about: is it actually worth dropping an RTX 5060 Low Profile into a cheap, airflow-restricted business machine? I walk through the full upgrade path—pulling the side panel, redoing the CPU thermal paste, upgrading the RAM from 8GB to 32GB, and making sure storage is gaming-ready with a 1TB NVMe SSD. The goal is simple: turn a tiny office box into a legit playable gaming PC without breaking the bank. The two big problems with these SFF office PCs are power and airflow, so I fix both. The stock 250W PSU isn’t the move for an RTX 5060, so I swap in a 500W HP replacement PSU with proper CPU and GPU power connectors, then install the Gigabyte RTX 5060 LP (with a small drive cage mod to make it fit) and hook up the 8-pin. And instead of drilling holes into the original panel, I design and 3D print a ventilation side panel—because that’s just how I like to do it. After the build is done, I stress test with FurMark and CPU-Z, then jump into real games: God of War Ragnarök, Resident Evil 4 Remake (RT preset), and Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p settings. The GPU runs at PCIe 3.0 x8, and honestly I’m fine with that—this is a budget build, and I’m not spending 500% to 1000% more just to chase a small performance bump.
