मेरे हिसाब से untagged ports वो होते हैं जहां end devices लगते हैं—जैसे laptop/PC—और वो एक specific VLAN का member बन जाते हैं। Tagged ports आम तौर पर trunk/transport के लिए होते हैं, जहां एक ही link पर multiple VLANs carry होते हैं। Switch में आपको VLAN ID assign करके tagged/untagged membership define करनी पड़ती है।

Trunk port basically tagged port होता है जो device-to-device communication के लिए use होता है—जैसे firewall to L2 switch या switch to switch। मैंने demo में ports 24-28 को trunk रखा ताकि VLAN 10 और VLAN 20 दोनों firewall तक एक ही uplink से जा सकें। यही uplink आपका multiple VLAN traffic transport करता है।

Sophos firewall पर VLAN कैसे बनाते हैं?

मैंने Sophos XGS 86 में Add Interface के अंदर जाकर port 2 पर VLAN add किया। पहले VLAN ID 10 बनाया और IP 10.10.10.1/24 दिया, फिर VLAN ID 20 बनाया और IP 10.10.11.1/24 दिया। इसके बाद मैंने दोनों VLAN interfaces को LAN zone की तरह define करके ready किया।

मैंने firewall के DHCP section में दो अलग-अलग DHCP scopes बनाए—एक VLAN 10 interface के लिए और दूसरा VLAN 20 interface के लिए। दोनों में मैंने 100 से 200 तक IP range assign किया और DNS में public DNS use किया। फिर laptop को अलग-अलग VLAN ports में लगाकर verify किया कि सही VLAN की IP मिल रही है।

मैंने switch में 802.1Q VLAN enable किया और default VLAN 1 को mostly not member कर दिया ताकि control साफ रहे। फिर VLAN 10 और VLAN 20 create करके access ports को untagged members में रखा और uplink ports (24-28) को tagged/trunk रखा। Configuration के बाद मैंने save configuration जरूर किया ताकि reboot के बाद भी settings बनी रहें।

जब आप servers और users को अलग VLAN में रखते हैं, तो आप firewall rules से सिर्फ जरूरी ports/services ही allow करते हैं, पूरा network खुला नहीं रहता। इससे lateral movement कम होता है और security बेहतर होती है। साथ ही broadcast domain छोटा होने से traffic कम होता है और network ज्यादा smooth चलता है।
