In today’s video I’m sharing my 11th grader Bella’s assigned readers for the 2025–2026 homeschool year. Bella has always been my kid that loves to read, so the challenge this year wasn’t getting her to read—it was choosing books that actually go with what she’s doing. Most of her assigned readers line up with our Notgrass Exploring America history course (I always mix it up with America the Beautiful, but this is the high school one), and then we also have the Good and the Beautiful High School Year 3 book pack for language arts. I walk through our history readers first—things like The Scarlet Letter (which has sparked a lot of conversation already), Frederick Douglass, David Crockett, Mark Twain, Uncle Tom’s Cabin (I even bought a smaller copy so it’s easier to carry), and a few others like Miracle in the Hills and Mama’s Bank Account that I’m honestly curious to read myself. Then I share Bella’s “fun reads,” which are mostly Twisted Tales (because she loves the alternate-story idea) plus Shadow and Bone to try out because a friend recommended it. I also show a small non-fiction/reference stack to support her interest in writing, along with a modern manners book I’m planning to use in our morning basket too.
