About This Video

In this video I unbox the Universal Audio Volt 2 audio interface on camera so you can see exactly what shows up when you order it. I pull it straight out of the retail box (no pre-opening), point out the QR code up top for getting installed quickly, and show you the foam packing and what’s included in the smaller accessory box. Once I get the Volt 2 in hand, I give you my first impressions on build quality. I’m coming from a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, and the Volt 2 immediately feels more dense and heavier than I expected—definitely not a “cheap plastic” vibe. I also walk through the connections: MIDI ports, monitor L/R outputs, a 5V DC power input, USB-C, and a physical on/off switch, plus the two front inputs and the main controls (I’ll dig deeper into those in the full review). To wrap it up, I do a quick real-world power test by plugging USB-C into my laptop (via an Apple USB dongle). The interface lights up and my computer prompts an installation guide, which confirms you can run it over USB-C alone on a laptop/desktop, and the 5V DC is there for tablet/phone use.
