In this video I share my real-world thoughts after jumping into Fender Studio Pro 8 the moment it launched. I’m not sponsored, nobody sent me notes, and I’m coming at this as someone who’s lived inside “Studio One” for years on The Home Studio Producer. First thing I talk about is the naming and the knock-on effect inside the software: “Song Setup” becoming “Session Setup,” the Inspector moving, and a bunch of terminology/location changes that can slow you down if your workflow is muscle memory. I also dig into the new visual direction—more of an Ableton-style, horizontal channel-strip vibe and the continued push with the Launcher. Personally, I don’t love that left-to-right plugin flow because I mix top-down like a console, and I’m usually on a mouse, not a trackpad. If the Launcher and that new layout are the main reasons you’re excited, I honestly think you might be happier in Ableton Live. For me, the only two upgrade “wins” are plugins: the new reverb (a big leap for stock verbs, especially if you don’t own third-party reverbs) and the Mustang Native amp plugin (a major upgrade from Ampire). But if you’re a casual home recorder and you’re not making money with music, I don’t think you need Studio Pro 8 right now—especially if it’s more than a ~$100 upgrade.
