Wash the skillet with the Bar Keepers Friend (soap also works). Dry the skillet with a towel and heat on the stove top for 3 minutes or until perfectly dry. Oil the carbon steel area with some form of vegetable oil and wipe it out as much as possible. Put in the oven upside down for 3 minutes. Wipe with a paper towel again to prevent the oil from beading. Put back in the oven upside down for 1 hour. Repeat steps 4, 5, 6, 7 one more time. Turn off the oven and let the skillet cool off with the oven.
