About This Video

When I’m making videos, I’m always thinking about story—beginning, middle, end—and my voice is a huge part of that. In this Tech film, I tested a true budget audio setup: the Maono PD100X dynamic mic paired with the Maonocaster G1 Neo interface, and I compared it against my current combo, the Fifine K688 with the Arturia MiniFuse 1. I break down what you’re actually getting under $100, what sounds good, and what starts to feel like “feature overload” without real value. The PD100X impressed me at first: solid build, USB and XLR versatility, cardioid tone that can sound warm, plus onboard gain control and headphone monitoring. But the Maono ecosystem isn’t perfect for my workflow—especially the G1 Neo. It’s packed with DSP buttons (voice changing, sound pads, looping, etc.), and for me as a cinematic creator, that stuff feels gimmicky when I can do it cleaner in software. The mic also distorted when I got too close, and the RGB didn’t fit my dark, moody desk setup aesthetic. In the end, I explain why the Maono setup can be great for entry-level creators or gamers, but why I stick with the consistency and higher-quality feel of the K688 + MiniFuse 1.
