About This Video

Hi, I’m Gr8fully Tedicated, and this week I took you with me to Oatman, Arizona—about as far from “Denmark” as we can get after last week’s little adventure. Oatman is an old Route 66 ghost town that started out as a gold-mining place, and when the gold played out, the tourists moved in… along with the burros that never really left. They pretty much own the streets now, and yes—burro food is sold all over town, and yes—you need to watch where you step because the burros have definitely “signed the guest book.” In this video I wander through the old mining leftovers, poke my head into what they’re calling a haunted mine (spoiler: I couldn’t see a thing), and catch a classic Wild West gunfight show right on the street. Then I do what any sensible 76-year-old would do: I make friends with the burros, scratch a few heads, and try not to get myself recruited into Jackass Junction. We even stop in at Julie’s Saloon to wet our whistle, and I show you how they’re reprocessing old mined material with newer technology to see if there’s still gold hiding in there. If you’re planning a Route 66 stop, Oatman is quirky, funny, and absolutely worth the detour.
