In this behind-the-scenes studio vlog, I’m taking you through my full process of making a mini coloring book called “The Perfect Beach Day” using my iPad in Procreate. I start the way I always do: a quick brainstorm session (I literally set a 5-minute timer) where I jot down words, little doodles, and anything that fits the theme. Since this is a mini book, I only need six page ideas, but I like to generate extra options so I can choose the best set. From there, I move into rough thumbnail sketches to explore composition before I commit to anything more polished. After that, I lean into planning (because yes, I’m a huge planner person). I put everything in one place with a visual mood board so I can stay on track and avoid feeling overwhelmed—my coloring books are all about appreciating slow, simple moments, and I like my process to reflect that too. Then I refine my sketches in Procreate and create final line art by tracing those refined sketches. With mini pages, I keep things simpler and avoid tiny, fussy details so they’re quicker and lower-pressure to color. Finally, I export everything to my computer, arrange it in Canva, use a Zine arranger to set up double-sided printing on two sheets, cut, trim, and staple it into a finished mini book.
