Hi, I’m Jen (Fructus Illustrations), and in this cozy Color With Me video I walk you through my full alcohol marker coloring process inside my spring Fructus Coloring Book. I start by gathering my go-to supplies—alcohol markers (because I love how vibrant they are and how smooth the coverage looks), a plastic sheet or spare paper for extra protection, a clip to keep my book open, and a white gel pen for highlights. I also share why I design my books with thick, single-sided pages so you can use the media you like without stressing too much about bleedthrough. From there, I take you step-by-step through how I plan lighting (this page is set at dusk), why I put highlights down early, and how I keep color continuity for my characters across pages. I show how I handle big areas without streaks (start on one side and work across), how I add depth with shadows and stippling for leafy texture, and how I build a simple sky gradient by starting light and blending darker colors in. Near the end, I add my favorite finishing touches—extra shadows to make everything pop, white gel pen highlights (including little “bug” dots around the lamppost), and a new textured swiping technique on the wall and path that I’m definitely carrying into future pages.
