About This Video

In this video I break down exactly how I build a sports design portfolio that can actually get you hired, using my 2024–25 Colorado State Men’s Basketball Behance project as the real example. I zoom out first and talk platforms, because some options are paid, clunky, or give you weird URLs. My biggest recommendation is Behance since it’s tied to your Adobe account (so if you’re already paying for Photoshop, it’s basically free), and it’s also a great place to discover other creatives. Then I walk through my four-step playbook: organize, layout, build, and export. On the organization side, I’m thinking like an employer—can you conceptualize a full season narrative from preseason to postseason, and can you back it up with strong visuals? I show how I landed on five pillars (conference coverage, social graphics, Mountain West, March Madness, and marketing) and why order matters for keeping people engaged. From there I get into layout decisions (my usual 2s and 3s approach vs. the “ladder” layout I used here), building in Photoshop at 8x40 using smart objects for easy swaps, and the export method that saves your life on Behance: slice from guidelines so you’re not uploading one ungodly giant JPEG. Presentation is just as important as the work, and this is how I make both feel polished.
