About This Video

Hey friends! In this video I’m showing you exactly how I made a large, 5-foot mosaic number 8 for my daughter’s 8th birthday party—start to finish—using budget-friendly supplies (yes, Dollar Tree foam boards). I combined four foam boards, hand-sketched the number 8, and even made a quick stencil with taped-together paper so the top and bottom “zeros” matched. One big takeaway: don’t do what I did at first and use scissors. It works, but it’s challenging and it will slow you down—using a razor/craft knife makes the cuts so much faster and cleaner. After the number is cut out, I walk you through making 6-inch side panels to create the “walls” that hold the balloons. I measure, cut long strips, and then score them (light cuts that don’t go all the way through) so the panels bend nicely around the curves of the 8. Then it’s hot glue time—gluing the panels on, securing corners, leaving an opening so I can reach the middle, and building the inside circles. Finally, I fill it with balloons and use small amounts of hot glue to press-and-hold each balloon into place, mixing bigger and smaller balloons to fit the spaces for a full, beautiful mosaic look.
