In this video I’m sharing clips and snippets from my daughter’s 9th birthday DIY movie themed party—an indoor “dine-in theater” right in our house. I truly went all in, and my main goal was to blacken out the space so it felt like a real movie theater, even though it was still light outside during the party. I’ll show you how I covered lighter walls and windows using black table covers and black curtains, and how I used lighting and posters to create that dark, immersive theater feel once the lights were turned off. You’ll also see the decor come together step-by-step: the TV “screen” area framed with white curtains and lights, a personalized welcome sign over the TV, and my balloon work—including a full balloon wall in front of the fireplace plus a popcorn balloon arch and Happy Birthday backdrop for the dessert table. I’m also sharing the layout process (yes, furniture had to be moved!) so I could squeeze in eight 4ft tables with black tablecloths, black chairs, and red chair sashes. I’ll show the concession stand setup, party favors, tickets and punch cards for snacks, and the grand reveal with the lights off. And if you’re wondering how long it took—this full transformation took me about 3 and a half days, but it was so worth it for the full experience.
