Nestled in the heart of the San Juan mountains of Colorado, Ophir is a tiny little town that is almost completely isolated. Without four-wheel drive, you might not be able to get here at all. It takes a certain type of hearty mountain folk to live in this remote, barely populated old mining town. After having driven over the infamous Ophir Pass, a rugged Jeep road, several years ago, I haven't been able to shake my curiosity of what this little town is like in the winter.
