I try all new items, sleeping quilt, tent, mattress, clothing, backpack, and some really, ahem, sexy accessories. About This Video

Camping in Sedona is highly restricted, but if you know where to look, there are a few legal dispersed spots—so I hiked up from the desert into the clouds for a wintry overnight gear test. It’s a 1,500–2,000 foot climb into a totally different ecosystem, and I set up on one of my favorite overlooks with views across Sedona and up toward Flagstaff. I also threw out a trail camera because I’d heard black bear and mountain lion cruise this mountain… and yes, I was hoping for something spicy (but I got no game). This trip was all about putting new 2025 gear through real cold, wet conditions—19°F overnight with wind and everything icing over. I tested the Six Moon Designs Haven (first time with their shelters), a Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite, and a Zenbivy Light -5 quilt/hood setup. My big takeaway: quilts can be very warm, but even tiny drafts matter when it’s truly cold, and I still trust a mummy bag more if I’m pushing toward 0°F. The standout winners for me were down booties + down pants for comfort, and an ultralight Silky Pocketboy saw with a Sulak 46 handle—super sleek, crazy efficient, and honestly my favorite item of the trip.
