In this video I’m setting up my research journal for the first week of February inside my Aura Estelle Magnet Vertical Weekly Planner, and I’m doing it with Black History Month in mind—while also reminding us that Black history and Black lives deserve to be celebrated all year long. For February, I changed up my layout so the occupations stand out: I brush-letter the occupation on the left side (with a Zebra brush marker) and then write in the names each week. That small tweak makes it way easier to see where one week ends and the next begins. I also walk you through how I choose who I’m highlighting. My list is limitless, but I’m intentional about including women—because historically we rarely saw women in “male-dominated” professions. This month I’m focusing on writers, painters, aviators/pilots, and architects, and I’m careful not to duplicate people I’ve already featured in my 2024 Take A Note planner. Along the way you’ll see me print and trim my photos (Fiskars trimmer), glue everything down, and talk pens and ink honestly—what’s working, what isn’t, and why I switched back to my TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR.
