While doing landscape photography near Death Valley, California, I took a detour and visited the real joshua tree famously photographed by Anton Corbijn for the gatefold and back cover of U2's classic album. The tree was no longer alive (it now lays in the sand), but all around the base of the tree were loads of intriguing mementos and gifts from fans who made the journey before me.
