Bad photographers edit photos?

I wouldn't need Photoshop to cover up my mistakes. Editing also distorts reality, and ruins the authentic, natural appearance of my subjects. In other words, as much as I love the technical skill and artistry of photo editing, it can also make me miserable. But hang on, maybe I've got this all wrong. Maybe I'm not seeing the editing process for what it is. Maybe I'm not understanding what my real intent is, and shouldn't be holding myself back. Maybe my images need more of input, not less.
