I FAILED | Ending my 1000 mile bike ride

When I set out on this ride, I knew it came with a risk of failure. I hadn’t been training regularly on a bike, I’m in by no means the best shape of my life, and we were on a time crunch needing to get home as soon as possible. With every risk comes the opportunity for failure, but risk also brings an even greater opportunity for reward. Winston Churchill once said, “Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” I know he certainly wasn’t referring to something as small as cycling, but the idea of never losing enthusiasm in the face of failure or difficulty is what keeps those of us hungry for adventure with a zeal for life exploring even when faced with failure. I knew I’d rather fail trying on this ride than not try at all. These are days I can never get back, and I wanted to make them count.
