I’ve been using my 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro since the day it came out, and after almost four years, it’s still the one piece of tech I genuinely don’t feel pushed to upgrade. Mine is specced with the M1 Max, 64GB of RAM, and a 4TB SSD, because this laptop is literally my entire setup—I don’t have a desktop. I like editing directly off my internal drive, carrying all my projects with me, and not worrying about storage. Even though I’ve tested a bunch of newer Macs (including the latest MacBook Pro models), my real-world workflow just doesn’t change in a meaningful way. In this video I go through how it’s held up: the design still looks basically identical to the new ones, the port selection is still solid (I live on USB‑C, and I use the SD card slot constantly), and the 14-inch size is still my favorite for travel. The main downside is battery aging—after daily heavy use, I’m at about 88% capacity and I do charge more often than I’d like. But performance-wise, it’s still a beast for Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and even newer stuff I’ve been doing like Shaper3D and 3D printing workflows. Unless it breaks, gets lost, or stops getting software support, I honestly have no reason to upgrade.
