About This Video

I’ve been using the iPhone 17 Pro Max for 48 hours, and this video is basically the honest, early “truth” check: what’s actually new, what feels better, and what I’m still unsure about. The first big thing is the redesign—Apple went with a ceramic shield glass plate and a unibody aluminum build, and it genuinely looks and feels different from recent Pro iPhones. It’s still a big, thick phone, but it doesn’t feel wildly larger than the 16 Pro Max in daily use. The orange color is way better in person, the camera bump is polarizing (but I got over it fast), and the buttons and speakers both feel like a step up. I also cover the move to eSIM (it was surprisingly painless), the brighter 3,000-nit display, and the new anti-reflective coating that finally makes outdoor visibility excellent. The tradeoff is durability: aluminum is going to chip and show wear way more than titanium, and the phone is also super slick in-hand—so yeah, I’d use a case. Then we get into the real reason people buy the Pro Max: cameras, performance, and battery. All three rear cameras are 48MP, the 4x telephoto is noticeably crisper, and the 8x digital zoom gets genuinely usable shots from far away. Video is still top-tier (4K up to 120fps), the selfie camera is a major upgrade with autofocus and a wider square sensor, and the A19 Pro + vapor chamber + 5,000mAh+ battery combo is looking very promising so far.
