Is opening your LEGO sets ruining the value of your LEGO collection? I recently made a video comparing the price of my open, built and displayed LEGO sets to what they’d be worth if they were sealed, and it was kind of crazy to see the difference. In this video, I’m discussing why there are some LEGO sets that I own that I will NEVER open, but also give my thoughts on whether you SHOULD or SHOULD NOT be opening your LEGO sets. Let me know what you think in the comments - are LEGO sets meant to be opened and played with? -------- Thanks for watching this #LEGO videos! About This Video

I’m Brad, and in this video I’m getting real about the one thing that can absolutely nuke the value of your LEGO collection: opening your sets. I’ve got a full LEGO room in my condo (honestly, close to a million pieces at this point), and most of my collection is open, built, and on display. But I also showed you the handful of sets I’ve kept sealed on purpose—like old LEGO System packs that are just cool to have sealed, a Ninjago set signed by The Fold, a couple tiny nearly-20-year-old LEGO City sets I already own built, a Studio set I love for the line, a vintage Model Team set that’s worth a pretty penny, and my LEGO Masters Travel Moments set signed by designers and cast. The big question I’m talking through is: should you actually keep sets sealed for value, or open them for enjoyment? I totally understand why sealed sets can be tempting—my own comparison of sealed vs opened prices was kind of crazy—but for me, LEGO is meant to be opened. You can’t even see the bricks in the box, and the whole point is building something with your hands. I’m basically “team open your LEGO sets,” with a few exceptions for sets that are rare, exclusive, signed, or super sentimental—because at the end of the day, you should enjoy the hobby in the way that matters to you.
