About This Video

LEGO prices have been getting out of control lately and, honestly, it feels pretty much criminal—see what I did there? In this video I’m talking specifically about LEGO City pricing, because I just picked up two brand-new January 2026 releases and the numbers shocked me. The EV Supercar comes in at $12.99 CAD, and I’ll be real—that one feels pretty fair for families and kids. But then there’s the LEGO City Taxi: 122 pieces (only a handful more than the supercar) and it’s $19.99 CAD. Like… what the heck, LEGO? I also look at other LEGO City prices online and it just gets wilder: a recycling truck at $49.99 for 434 pieces, a van at $39.99 for 276 pieces, and Coast Guard sets jumping to $85 and even $129. My biggest issue is that LEGO City is LEGO’s own IP and it’s marketed as 5+, so why are so many sets priced like adult collector stuff? I can understand higher prices for licensed themes or minifigure-heavy sets, but City is supposed to be that perfect “$10–$40 treat” for kids. I’m an adult and I’ll spend a lot on LEGO, but I hate the idea of pricing kids out of the hobby—especially when some of these builds feel like half a set.
