I recently picked up a used copy of the LEGO Idea Grand Piano (set 21323) from a 3rd party LEGO resale store for significantly less than I could buy the set brand new from LEGO, however, the used set I picked up was already preassembled and was a little dusty, so in an effort to make this set my own, I had to spend hours disassembling the build, wash all of the LEGO parts and then rebuild the set. In this video, I bring you along as I break down whether buying used LEGO sets like this is actually worth it compared to just buying them brand new, let me know what you think about this! -------- Thanks for watching this #LEGO videos! About This Video

I just bought a used copy of the LEGO Ideas Grand Piano (21323), and in this video I’m breaking down if buying used LEGO sets is actually worth it. I found it at Andy’s Brick Shop (one of the coolest third-party LEGO stores I’ve ever been to) for way less than the brand new price here in Canada. Between a buy-2-get-1-free deal and splitting the discount across my haul, I basically paid around $180 for the piano instead of the $500+ it would’ve cost me new—so yeah, the savings were real. But here’s the catch: it came prebuilt and dusty, and I wanted the full “new set” experience. I spent about 2.5–3 hours disassembling it, another ~30 minutes washing the parts (salad spinner, water, soap—the usual), and then I rebuilt the whole thing without numbered bags. The rebuild took me 7 hours, 28 minutes, and 51 seconds, mostly because I was constantly hunting for pieces. All in, I put about 11 hours into this project. At the end of the day, I saved roughly $300, and even if that cost me an extra ~6 hours versus building it new, that works out to about $50/hour saved. For me, it was worth it because I had fun, made a whole project (and video) out of it, and now I’ve got a super sick set in my LEGO room. But if you’re on a time crunch or you hate piece-hunting stress, buying new might be the move.
