I point out the telltale signs that the owner genuinely cares: the boat stored under cover, a trailer that’s in good nick, proper straps, stabilizers, and even clever little safety touches to stop the trailer tipping. I also explain why a trim button is an absolute must in my book—safer shallow-water approaches and better efficiency when you’re up and running. We test the Yamaha 40hp outboard in a tub of water, and I show you what to check right away: prime the bulb, start it, and look for that steady telltale stream. If there’s no telltale, don’t run it—because overheating is how engines get blown.
