Shelly Plus Plug UK Review and Setup, Home Assistant, Alexa, Apple Home and Aqara

In this video, I take a detailed, real world look at the Shelly Plus Plug UK, including setup in the Shelly app, Home Assistant, Alexa, Apple Home, Aqara, a walkthrough of the settings, and a practical automation example. This is Part 1 of a 3 part Shelly series, where I will also be reviewing the Shelly Duo Bulb E27 Gen 3 and the Shelly Presence Gen4. The Shelly Plus Plug UK is a Wi Fi and Bluetooth smart plug designed for the UK market with a Type G plug format, built in power monitoring, a physical side button, and an RGB LED ring around the outside. It is compact enough to fit well even in tighter spaces, which is something I really appreciate compared to some bulkier smart plugs. In this video, I show: • what is in the box • setup in the Shelly app • live power monitoring • setup in Home Assistant • how it appears in Alexa through my existing Home Assistant setup • bridging it into Apple Home • getting it into Aqara via Matter Bridge • a walkthrough of the key Shelly settings • a simple but practical temperature based automation example One of the things I like most about the Shelly Plus Plug UK is how flexible it is. It works very quickly across multiple platforms, and when you switch it on or off in one ecosystem, the state updates rapidly across the others as well. It also exposes useful energy data, including: • power in watts • accumulated energy usage • current and voltage • safety diagnostics such as overcurrent, overheating, overpower, and overvoltage That makes it useful not just as a smart plug, but also as a way of tracking appliance behaviour and creating smarter automations. Inside the Shelly app, I also show a quick look at the available settings, including: • notifications • usage graphs • timers • schedules • actions • scripts • Wi Fi and connectivity settings • MQTT options • Bluetooth settings • protection settings • LED settings • night mode • detached mode • power restore behaviour • firmware updates • reboot and factory reset options I also demonstrate a useful automation example in the Aqara app where a temperature sensor can turn a fan on and off through the Shelly plug depending on room temperature. The same sort of automation logic can also be recreated in other ecosystems. This is an honest review. Shelly sent these products over for review, but this is not a paid promotion.
