About This Video

In this week-in-the-life vlog, I’m taking you with me to Rio de Janeiro while I’m working remotely as a software engineer. I’m here for a month because Europe starts getting cold and dark in October, so I’m doing South America for winter. I show you my studio setup (fast 500 Mbps internet, a proper little workstation, balcony vibes), and what my work actually looks like right now—building dashboards for a UK government project, presenting data clearly using Chart.js, and slowly branching from front-end into more full-stack over the next year or two. The schedule is the trade-off: I’m waking up at 4:40am to make 9:30am UK calls, but the payoff is finishing around 1pm local time and instantly being on the beach. I also talk honestly about Rio’s “edge”—it’s my favorite city in the world, but it can be sketchy, especially if you’re walking around with a camera or a work laptop. I share how I nomad in a new city: lock in internet, find a gym (Rio’s outdoor beach gyms are unreal), and join WhatsApp communities to meet people even if you’re introverted. At the end, I reflect on cost, safety, where to stay, and why Rio isn’t really a classic digital nomad hub (yet).
