There are fears of a catastrophic loss of life and widespread destruction in Venezuela after two earthquakes struck near the capital Caracas. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit about 160km west of the capital. Less than a minute later there was another quake measuring 7.5. A number of buildings in Caracas have collapsed. The rare back-to-back earthquakes are among the strongest to have hit the country in more than a century.
