Venezuela is bracing for news of catastrophic loss of life after two earthquakes struck close to its capital as many were home celebrating a public holiday. The US Geological Survey says a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit about 160km west of Caracas, followed less than a minute later by a magnitude 7.5 tremor. The rare back-to-back tremors rank among the strongest earthquakes to hit the country in more than a century, and there are fears the death toll could reach into the tens of thousands. Journalist Ana Vanessa Herrero brought The World the latest from Caracas.
