About This Video

Greetings ladies and gentlemen, it’s the voice of your one and only Z the Messenger. In this video I’m breaking down SPOTON by Sixth Sample—a free automatic pitch correction plugin that’s super essential for reggae dance music, but trust me, it can work in any genre. A lot of people want that quality, authentic voice that still sounds raw (not robotic), yet they still need pitch correction because not everybody can go and buy Melodyne and all them expensive tools. SPOTON gives you both worlds: classic autotune “typing” effect when you want it, and a very transparent, clean tuning when you want the vocal to just sit on key. I walk you through the main controls—Amount and Speed—because that’s where the magic is. If you crank both to 100, you get that classic hard-tune effect. Then I show you how to set the scale/key (my example is F minor on Windows using the Control key), because without the key your vocal won’t lock in properly. I also share my own balance for that “studio flavor” without overdoing it (I’m mindful because people always tell me, “keep your voice raw”). Before I sign out, I also point out the resize option for the GUI and remind you it’s a free download from Sixth Sample.
