This video is my first real Halloween yard display, and I built the whole scene around the Lowes 7ft witch animatronic as the centerpiece. I went for a “Swamp Witch Hut” vibe and made sure everything in the yard either started as DIY or got tweaked to match the story. Since we just moved into this house in July, I didn’t want to go full-blown haunt right out of the gate—but I did want something big enough to test the waters and learn what works in my yard. What you’re seeing here is basically the result of about two months of prep work: planning the layout, building and altering props so they feel like they belong together, and dialing in the overall look so it reads as a single scene instead of random decorations. The biggest takeaway is that one strong anchor prop (in my case, that 7-foot witch) makes it way easier to design everything else around it. And honestly, the neighborhood reaction has been awesome—lots of lookers and compliments—which pretty much guarantees I’m doing more Halloween haunt how-tos and DIY builds going forward. I’m already planning next year.
