There’s a space between what we have and what we want, and in this video I sit right in that space—waiting on the Sony A7V (A7V / “A7 5” as I say it in the story) and asking the real question: should you actually wait for it? I talk about why we chase new camera bodies in the first place—dynamic range, autofocus, low light, all the specs we tell ourselves we need—and then I get honest about what’s underneath that. Most of the time, we don’t want the camera. We want the version of ourselves we think we’ll become once we have it. I share the exact moment I caved in November 2024 and bought the Sony A7C II to document a trip to New York City where I proposed to my girlfriend Julie (she said yes). It was the perfect travel camera for that season, but it also made it clear to me it was a temporary fix for what I want to build on this channel. I sold it in January 2025 expecting the A7V to land in spring… and it didn’t. That waiting season—between getting engaged, buying a house, and working on home projects—taught me to stop asking “what should I buy?” and start asking “what do I actually want?” The takeaway is simple: I’m excited for the Sony A7V, but the lesson wasn’t in the unboxing—it was in the waiting, and in focusing on storytelling over specs so I’m ready for the next chapter when it finally shows up.
