This week on XP Waste, I (Michael) and Oxie basically looked at Slayer and went, “Why are so many tasks just… there?” Jagex has been weirdly quiet lately (which always makes us suspicious), and with stuff like Sailing and this new Grid Master event looming, we wanted to pivot into something we actually love talking about: Slayer. Specifically, we put our thoughts on paper and pitched five Slayer item ideas we genuinely think would make the skill more interesting—especially for early-to-midgame accounts where the task list can feel like a whole lot of nothing until Bloodvelds. The core of the episode is us “being devs for a day” and designing theoretical drops for underappreciated monsters and annoying pain points. We start with stuff like Zygomites—Duradel assigns them, but what’s the actual payoff? So we pitch items like Suspicious Goggles: no stats, but poison/disease immunity, with a potential extra perk for Zulrah learners (because early iron Zulrah is suffering). None of this is real (unless a Jmod wants to steal it—please do), but the takeaway is simple: Slayer can be more than XP and points if the monsters actually have a reason to exist.
