In this episode, I’m finally talking Sailing—after what feels like eight years of waiting—and giving our first real “official XP review” now that we’ve actually lived in the skill for a couple weeks. Oxie and I both basically haven’t touched land since November 19th, which is the best compliment I can give: Sailing has been fun enough that it completely hijacked our normal OSRS routines. We break down what the early game actually feels like (yes, the 1–30 port task grind), why it’s not the end of the world, and how the skill opens up hard once you hit Barracuda Trials and start upgrading boats. I also get into the stuff that’s been surprising in practice: charting the seas/oceans being way more enjoyable than people expected, the “no guides, nobody knows anything” launch-day vibe, and the very real GP bleed—magic stones, bank chests, and constant upgrades add up fast. We talk meta-ish things too, like crystal extractor XP and why Jagex is already looking at changing it because it turns into weird zero-time bankstanding XP. Overall takeaway: Sailing feels like a legit OSRS skill with real progression, great midgame-to-endgame loops (Gwennneth Glide vs. AFK salvage), and just enough jank (charter ships can absolutely get bent) to still feel Old School.
