Watch a video about the making of my geothermal greenhouse: https://youtu.be/J8rL71zWf_c So just how much did my greenhouse cost to build? The answer is found in this video. Ton(s) of the material used in the build were free...(literally tons). A friend of mine had a bunch of yellow pine that he wanted to get rid of, and he let me use his mill to make the big structural timber. I recognize that is the equivalent of being born with a silver spoon in my mouth in the DIY community. But it was free nonetheless. The windows were from online free-cycle sites..as well as the door. The topmost wood roof shingles were made from pallet wood...so free. The siding was also pallet wood. The structure of the raised bed inside the greenhouse is filled with the rocks that I had to jack-hammer out to make room for the structure. The wood on the raised bed is the wood from my previous greenhouse so free-cycled. All of the electrical wire inside was leftover from when I built my house. I asked construction friends and also free from online and got all of the 3/4" plywood for the sides and roof. It was ugly painted stuff, but dry and clean. Friend was throwing away roof paper and ice and water shield. I saved styrofoam containers and got a bunch from FB for free, and cut them up and filled all the walls with it. I purchased: The temperature control system and fans. The 6 clear poly-carbonate roof panels. The Styrofoam board that is buried around the G.A.H.T system. The Styrofoam board that insulates the floor of the greenhouse. The Gabion baskets that hold the raised bed together. A couple rolls of super heavy ground fabric.Nails, screws, and a LOT of silicone sealant. It's important to note that heating a greenhouse or hobby greenhouse does take some time and money. A heated greenhouse is a critical aspect of homesteading as long as it's an efficient greenhouse.
